Road Closure at Alton Barnes

Temporary Closure of: Alton Road (Part), Wilcot and Huish and Alton (Ref: TTRO
5614)

Notice is hereby given that the Wiltshire Council has made an Order to close temporarily to
all traffic:

Alton Road (Part), Wilcot and Huish and Alton; from its junction with West Stowell for a
distance of approximately 1.05 kilometres in a north westerly direction.

To enable: Textureblast to carry out carriageway retexturing.

Alternative route: via Alton Road (unaffected length) – Wilcot Green – C52 – A345 – C38 –
C8 and vice versa.

The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

This Order will come into operation on 19 November 2018 between the hours of 07:00 and
18:00 and will be required until 21 November 2018. It is anticipated that the works will take
the stated duration to complete depending upon weather conditions. Access will be
maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to
the nature of the works. The Order will have a maximum duration of 18 months.

Trains

The station at Pewsey is a charming Victorian station. It is on the mainline from Paddington, through Reading, Newbury, Westbury, Exeter and Plymouth and down to Penzance.

There are several trains each day to and from London for the benefit of commuters and other passengers (although the weekend service is a bit sparse!), and the journey time to and from Paddington is typically just over an hour.

Buses

There is a local bus service that connects some of the Pewsey Vale villages (including Bottlesford, Hilcott and North Newnton) with both Pewsey and Devizes. This is the Salisbury Red 101 / 102 service. There is a fixed stop service and a bookable stop service – otherwise known as the ‘Wigglybus’ The number to call to book is 01722 326154. There are also connections at Pewsey for Marlborough and Swindon to the north, and Salisbury to the south.

The Combine Community Bus:

The Combine Community Bus scheduled services are as follows:

Every Friday – Devizes (supermarkets, doctors etc.) departs from the Woodborough Social Club at 9.30 and returns from Devizes at 12.00. Fare £1.60 return

Second and fourth Tuesday in the month – Salisbury (centre) departs from the Woodborough Social Club at 9.30 and returns from Salisbury at 13.50. Fare £3.00 return.

Third Wednesday in the month – Marlborough (Waitrose and High Street) departs from the Woodborough Social Club at 9.30 and returns from Marlborough at 12.30. Fare £2.50 return.

The above services are dial a ride, please call Alan Coggins (01380 840302) to book your seat. Last reservations accepted by 19.00 night before departure. Bus passes are accepted on all these services.

All these services are ‘door to door’ and all our drivers will gladly help carry your shopping into your home should you require.

We pick up in the villages of Connock, Chirton, Patney, Beechingstoke, Marden, Woodborough, Bottlesford, Honeystreet, Alton Barnes, Hilcott and Manningford Bruce.
