The Village Hall

Set back from the road in Hilcott, is the Village Hall. The Village Hall Trust was established in 1982 and registered with the Charity Commission. Extract from the Charity Commission website:

“A Village Hall for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of North Newnton, in Hilcott, in the County of Wiltshire without distinction of political, religious or other opinions including use for meetings, lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.”

Prior to that date, the Hall was known as Hilcott Parish Room or Hilcott Church Room and dates to the early 20th century. An extension was added in the early 1950’s

A major refurbishment took place in 1998.

It has one main hall seating about 60 people. There are toilets and a small kitchen with cooking facilities.

The parish council holds its meetings in the Village Hall, and the Annual Parish Meeting is held here. There is a very small car park in front of the Hall plus roadside parking.

  • Capacity – 70 people
  • Tables – 13
  • Chairs – 60
  • Cost: £7.50 per hour

Defibrillators

We have two Defibrillators (also known as an AED – Automatic External Defibrillator) both are accessible to everybody 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The original is located outside the Village Hall and the second is in the old telephone kiosk at the Woodbridge Inn near the Woodbridge Roundabout.

These devices, along with another at the Woodborough Garden Centre, collectively provide coverage across the Parish.

They are sophisticated pieces of equipment. When an emergency call is placed to the ambulance service and they deem it appropriate to use a defibrillator they instruct the caller to send someone to collect the device (also providing the access code to the box in which the AED is housed). Once the AED is at the scene the user should immediately attach the electrode pads to the victim and follow the audio instructions given by the Defibrillator –  AED’s are safe and cannot harm someone who has had a Cardiac Arrest.
