His Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh 10th June 1921 – 9th April 2021

Books of condolence

Dear Town and Parish Councils,

Further to our email on Friday, the Government has provided further direction on books of condolence to commemorate His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

In accordance with COVID restrictions, GOV.UK states that physical books of condolence should not be on display.

There will be no physical books of condolence at any Royal Residence, UK Government or Devolved Administration buildings. Members of the public will be invited to contribute to a national online book of condolence found on the Royal website.

Therefore could we request that any books of condolence are removed and residents are pointed towards either the Wiltshire Council online book of condolence or the Royal book of condolence.

This is an unfortunate circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic and we recognise that this will be difficult for residents without internet access. Computers are available in our libraries and residents can pre-book one 45-minute session per day. They can also bring someone to support them by letting staff know in advance. Find out more on our website.

There are also other ways people can consider to mark the Duke’s passing, such as giving to a charity of their choosing or one of the charities or organisations The Duke of Edinburgh supported in his public duties.

Thank you for your continued support.
