Consultation request on “Kennet and Avon Line” Railway including new station for Devizes

Sent from the Pewsey Community Area Partnership (PCAP)

Dear Colleagues

Following a meeting on Friday (11th June 2021) with TransWilts Community Rail Partnership(CRP), Pewsey Vale Rail User Group and Great Bedwyn Rail User Group have been asked to support and participate in a new CRP which would be known as the Kennet and Avon Line. This would also include the proposed new station at Devizes and all other stations from Kintbury to Westbury which is fast becoming the new hub as the Bristol Metro stops there.

We have been asked to consult and ask for comments on this proposal by the end of this week June 20th. So please share this and my email for replies with anybody interested in the future of rail travel in our part of Wiltshire. The aim is an hourly stopping service both East and West with trains starting and terminating anywhere along this line.

TransWilts would have access to the Community Rail Network funds to employ an officer to oversee this group and we would have access to their expertise, indeed they would be the drivers of this project.

As chair of the  Pewsey Vale Tourism Partnership I see this as a positive step as collectively we have more impact than individually. Since Wiltshire Council’s investment in rail has been at best poor the past decade or so this might be a better option, especially if we can link it to integrated transport with proper links to buses and multi model ticketing.

Please can those of you with wide contact lists please share.
